The Harmful Effects of Legalism

Legalism can be a crushing burden that can rob believers of joy and make their spiritual experinece miserable. The belief that God's love has to be earned through great acts of sacrifice is one of Satan's greatest deceptive schemes that he uses to afflict Christians. The essence of legalism is the false belief that God loves you only when you work harder, give more money, or serve three nights per week at church instead of one. But that isn't the manner in which God loves the believer.
